bio and process

I am an artist and lecturer working from my studio and exhibition space called Hoofstraat Conceptual in Riebeek Kasteel, Western Cape.  My art-making practice deals with issues of displacement, place-making and sense of place and I have conducted an in-depth study of the traumatic effects of the loss of a home as experienced by the victims of displacement.

Although my artworks are technically varied, printmaking plays a vital part in my art-making process – either as sources for other projects or as end products in themselves. I approach printmaking in an intuitive way, allowing the process to guide me to develop ideas. My collection of handmade artist’s books, in which I include many of my prints, have been exhibited in Florence, Paris, Dakar, and at the 1:54 Contemporary African Art Fair in London (2018).

My works have been included in the Nando’s Collection, the Arcadia Collection, and the South African Embassy in Beijing. I hold a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of South Africa and qualifications in psychology and librarianship.
