I recently relocated to the beautiful sea-side town of Kommetjie after having lived in London for 15 years. For the first time in my life I have my very own studio space!
I previously worked as a woman’s health social researcher but after the birth of my second child, I desperately wanted to pursue a more creative outlet which allowed me to work from home and raise by two young boys.
I have no formal printmaking training or experience and happened upon relief printmaking by complete fluke. I first started tinkering with Lino in August 2018 and it was love at first cut. I find every aspect of creating a print utterly rewarding; from sketching the initial idea, translating it into the mirrored image to be carved, making marks into the lino and seeing the image printed for the first time. I love the subtle variations that make each and every print unique.
My work is influenced by my social and political views and often represented from a feminist vantage point with a pinch of humour thrown in for good measure. I am passionate about the environment and strongly feel that creative efforts should make a conscious effort to reduce our environmental impact – for these reasons my packaging is recyclable and I only use water-soluble inks printed on acid-free, cotton-rich paper.
