artist and printmaker
I am an artist living and working in the little seaside gem that is Kommetjie, Cape Town.
Printmaking in its many forms is my passion, whether teaching classes and workshops or creating my own work: my studio in Kommetjie is where you will find me at my happiest.
Having begun my career in the evolving digital world of graphic design, several decades later I experienced a yearning for more tangible art forms. In 2010 my passion for printmaking was ignited while on a journey into conceptual art - through a degree in Visual Art with UNISA. A few internships later I set up my own studio and began exhibiting and later sharing my passion through teaching. I have had the joy of uninterrupted artmaking during two month-long art residencies: the first in Venice, Italy and the second locally in Kommetjie and the Karoo. India beckons for 2020.
Living on the peninsula at the tip of South Africa provides great inspiration for visual expression. My interests lie in environmental issues as well as spiritual-geographical connections: the land and the liminal are themes which resonate strongly for me, resulting in constant exploration of new ways to give visual expression and meaning to these themes. I have a fascination too, for textures, and particularly enjoy discovering new ways to make marks through the many processes of excavation and alchemy involved in etching. The magic that happens when pulling a print will never fail to delight and enthrall me!
